What a Fucking Week. At Least Around Here It Ends With a Book Launch.

What a fucking week.

Senselessness and struggle, the inevitable search for meaning in chaos, and communities rallying together in the wake of tragedy. So much to unpack from the last few days. But that will not be done here, nor done now.

No, the reason I’m posting now is to notify all those of you listening of something far more frivolous (and right now I could do with some frivolous, and I suspect many of you could, too). For the local (my local is Toronto, incidentally) crowd:

Tomorrow, in the ongoing series of launch events for Claude Lalumière and Camille Alexa’s Masked Mosaic anthology, there will be a Toronto launch event at Bakka Phoenix Books. Starting at 3 pm, Mike Rimar, Emma Vossen, Michael Chong, and I will all be on hand to do some (ridiculously short) readings, chat, sign books, and generally make sure people have a good time. Copies of the anthology will be available to purchase, and Bakka always provides a singularly marvelous spread of treats and delectables. Of special consideration are the cookies. Oh, the cookies. I will refrain from waxing rhapsodic about the cookies, however sorely I am tempted.

So, in short:

3 pm, Bakka Phoenix Books. Cookies. I mean … uh, launch. Right, launch. Masked Mosaic. Four contributors to hand. Books signed, possibly coated with cookie dust, and otherwise made non-returnable.

And the Facebook page for the event can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/121000911423451/

Also in the category of Not Frivolous, but gorgeous and well worth sharing, nonetheless:

Karin Tidbeck, whose work is among some of the most accomplished, gifted, and haunting fiction you will ever read, has a new story up on Tor.com, called “Sing.” It is gorgeous, intricate, and you should drop whatever you are doing and read it now. Unless you are an emergency services worker of some kind, in which case: as you were (the link will still be there when you’re ready).

No, I can’t think why an emergency services worker would be reading this blog while performing their duties either.

Moving on …

As usual, I’m in the middle of several other things while taking the time to write a blog post on here, so I’m going to go back to doing those things, and let you all get back to your own, respective, regularly scheduled programming.

Good night all. And I’ll see any of you who are coming to the launch, well … at the launch….

Okay, that could have been snappier….

Ah, screw it. It’s been that kind of week. Here, have a video of the epic battle between a baby hedgehog and a tee-shirt:
