The May Submission Call Roundup

[Updated 05/28/16]

I’ve been updating the blog with open and upcoming submission calls for the last few weeks. Except that every time I add something, I realize there’s another market I’d like to mention (or one gets pointed out to me) as either open with a deadline coming up soon, or a market soon to reopen to subs.

So at this point, rather than doing more piecemeal posts, I’m just going to do a quick roundup and recap of openings and deadlines and leave it below. This covers the things already mentioned on the blog in the last few weeks, as well as things just being put up here today.

Anything else comes up in the next couple of days I’ll just add it here rather than making a new post.

All the links below are directly to submission guidelines pages.

Currently Open

F&SF
– Open until May 27 (reopens July 5)
Omenana
– Open until May 29
Shimmer – Open until May 31 (reopens Sept. 3)
Pseudopod – Open until May 31
Strange Horizons – Open until May 31 (reopens potentially Sept.)
People Of Colo(u)r Destroy Fantasy – Open until June 15

Upcoming

Liminal
– June 1-30
Nightmare – June 1-15
Lightspeed – June 16-30

Those submission windows don’t include markets that are (currently or regularly) open to constant submission, like Clarkesworld, Strange Horizons, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Escape Pod, The Dark, Grendelsong, Interzone/Black Static, and so on. Nor does it include markets like Uncanny, PodCastle, Fireside, Lamplight, and others for which I’ve seen no exact dates re their next submission periods. It’s just a heads up for submission windows that can be easy to miss in the next month or so.

I’m also eschewing the inclusion of anthology submission calls because there are so many of them with rolling deadlines that it would render this post chaos.

So, really, that’s for another time. :)

In the meantime, enjoy. Or feel free to suggest in the comments any markets I’ve overlooked here.
